US troops deployed near Pak border: daily

Islamabad, Nov 8, IRNA -- American troops have been deployed in Asmar in Afghanistan`s Kunar province amid reports that they were planning to close Binshahi border crossing linking Afghanistan with Pakistan, local press said. The News reported in its Saturday issue that Afghan militia force was deployed in Barikot close to Pakistan border, from where US troops were earlier evacuated after coming under rocket attacks. Binshahi border is used for timber smuggling. The porous 2200-km long Pakistan-Afghanistan border has witnessed upsurge in infiltration in recent months as media reports indicate. The Pakistani law enforcement agencies have been engaged in activities to stop illegal cross border movements. MHA/TSH/210 End
