EADS selected by French DGA to supply an experimental aircraft and test facility
Paris, 07 November 2003
EADS has received from the French armament procurement agency (DGA) a contract covering the design, production and operation of the airborne test facility MAMO (Moyen Aéroporté de Mesures Optroniques - Airborne optronic measurement facility) over a ten year period. The value of the contract is 22 Million euros.
The main purpose of this system is to characterise the infrared signature of French and foreign military assets (aircraft, helicopters, UAVs and missiles) for research on stealth technologies and improvements of the counter measures systems. The airborne test facility will be operated by the DGA Test and Investigation Centres Directorate. EADS will act as prime contractor for the overall system. This complex system is to be installed on-board an A300 / A310 Airbus specially modified by EADS Sogerma Services. It incorporates very high performance multiple spectrum sensors developed by ONERA (national agency for research and aerodynamic studies).
"This strategic project is another success for the EADS special mission aircraft activities. It demonstrates yet again the ability of the European group to propose solutions based on the integration of complex systems on all types of airborne platforms ", said Stefan Zoller, President and CEO of EADS Defence & Communication Systems (in formation).
EADS Defence and Communication Systems (DCS) is part of the newly restructured Defence and Security Systems division of EADS. It employs approx. 5,500 staff located principal in Germany, France and UK. DCS has been created in order to better respond to the new evolution of the defence markets which are more focused on global solutions and integrated systems. For this purpose, DCS regroups several defence activities with the telecommunications activities of EADS. Its field of competence encompasses manned and unmanned systems such as tactical and strategic UAVs, manned mission aircraft, Command, Control, Communication Information systems (C3I), Air and Naval Defence, Public Safety including Homeland Security and Communication and Information Network. DCS as the EADS System House implements advanced defence concepts, simulation and experimentation tools like NETCOS.
With revenues amounting to €30 billion (2002) and more than 100,000 employees, EADS is the largest aerospace and defense company in Europe and number two worldwide. EADS business comprises a wide experience on system integration for Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance (ISR) systems, general command, control and communications, commercial and military aircraft, helicopters, commercial launch vehicles, missile systems as well as satellites.
