India-China joint naval exercise off east China Sea soon
IRNA
New Delhi, Nov 6, IRNA -- Three frontline warships of Indian Navy will carry out a search and rescue exercise with the marine units of the Chinese Navy on Friday on the east China Sea. The Indian ships that will participate in the exercises are INS Ranjit (guided missile destroyer), INS Kulish (guided missile corvette) and INS Jyoti (replenishment tanker). These ships are presently on an overseas deployment to the south of the China Sea and will be making a port call at Shanghai for four days starting November 10. The task group of these three ships is commanded by Rear Admiral RP Suthan. The Chinese Navy is likely to be represented by a similar number of ships. Fixed-Wing aircraft and helicopters are also expected to join. This would be the first time that the two navies would be undertaking an exercise of this magnitude. The exercise is aimed at ensuring the safety of maritime trade and improving coordination in search and rescue at sea. This exercise will also be a significant step in enhancing cooperation between India and China in the maritime field. /AA/212 End
