VOICED AT:

INTRO: A series of suicide car bombings in Baghdad Monday killed at least 18 people and wounded dozens of others. VOA's Greg LaMotte has the details from the Iraqi capital.

TEXT: It started at 8:30 Monday morning when a huge bomb blast, heard several kilometers away, rocked a Red Cross building in Baghdad. U-S military officials said a suicide bomber rammed an ambulance packed with explosives into a barrier near the Red Cross building, where mostly Iraqis work.

For several blocks the streets were filled with injured and terrified citizens and broken glass from shattered windows lay everywhere.

Minutes later, a second explosion rocked the capital, this time at a police station. Police officials on the scene said a suicide bomber detonated a pick-up truck filled with explosives in front of the police station, killing three Iraqi police officers and one U-S military policeman, and injuring about 35 Iraqi civilians.

Within minutes, a third bomb exploded at another police station, injuring an unknown number of people.
