Russia may join NATO in future - Lord Robertson
IRNA
Berlin, Oct 26, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- Russia may join the North Atlantic Alliance in the future, NATO Secretary General Lord George Robertson said in an interview with Bild am Sonntag. He said he did not know what the Alliance would be like ten years from now. Lord Robertson said the Alliance had changed radically during his office. Nowadays Russia is an equal partner in the NATO-Russia Council, he remarked. Lord Robertson thinks that the enlargement will go on, and Russia may join the Alliance in a couple of years. He said they are fighting together against a common enemy -- international terrorism. He also thinks that Europeans should not waste time and money on the creation of their own army, which would be a rival to NATO. He said the EU could use resources of NATO in military operations. The Balkan mission shows that the EU and NATO can cooperate efficiently, Lord Robertson said. /AH/210 End
