IRNA
Islamabad, Oct 25, IRNA - Pakistan`s security forces have launched a big operation against Al-Qaeda and Taliban in Balochistan`s rugged areas, bordering Afghanistan, a local daily reported Saturday. "During the operation, a number of suspects, including a close relative of top Taliban leader Mullah Omar was also apprehended and huge weaponry confiscated, and several suspects were taken into custody." According to the Urdu paper Khabrain, initially the Crime Branch of the Police Department made some arrests, following which, a massive operation was kicked off in the mountainous area. However, the newspaper said some official sources did not confirm the operation was carried out. The law-enforcement agencies are already engaged in operation in tribal areas in Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP), which also shares border with Afghanistan. A number of key Al-Qaeda and Taliban suspects, the reports here claim, have been arrested in NWFP. After the fall of Taliban regime, some members of the groups had moved into Balochistan`s border areas and the security forces confiscated rockets and other type of arms, the newspaper said. There have been, however, reports in recent days that preparations were afoot for an action against suspect elements in Balochistan province. MHA/TSH/211 End
