Deadline to Pak tribes to hand over wanted Al-Qaeda men
IRNA
Islamabad, Oct 24, IRNA - The local administration in Pakistan`s tribal areas has given a three-day deadline to the tribes to hand over suspected Al-Qaeda and Taliban men, local press reported Friday. The administration after holding a grand jirga (forum) in North Waziristan Agency has given deadline to the tribal people, said the Urdu daily Jang. At the jirga the tribal elders and the administration officials reportedly failed to agree to any understanding. Afterwards, the tribals were given three days to hand over terror suspects. During the on-going operation against terrorist suspects, dozens of people have been taken into custody while over 40 vehicles seized and three thousand shops shut down, the newspaper added. Following failure of parleys, there was a possibility of an armed clash between the local population and the law enforcement forces in the tribal belt. The government believes that some remnants of Al-Qaeda and Taliban were hiding in the rugged tribal areas, bordering Afghanistan. MHA/TSH/211 End
