General Dynamics United Kingdom Forms Tactical Data Link Team

LONDON – General Dynamics United Kingdom Ltd, Rockwell Collins and Innovative Concepts (ICI) have teamed to develop the Tactical Information Exchange Capability (TIEC) for the United Kingdom Ministry of Defence’s close air support, interdiction and reconnaissance force of Tornado GR4 and Harrier GR9 aircraft. General Dynamics United Kingdom Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE:GD).

General Dynamics is the team leader and system integrator and will provide network connectivity and airborne qualification, Rockwell Collins will provide Link 16 capability and ICI will provide the Improved Data Modem (IDM).

General Dynamics UK Ltd is the Prime Contractor and Systems Integrator for the BOWMAN, secure digital voice and data communication system for the UK armed forces. In parallel with BOWMAN, the company is taking a leading role in the growing UK market for Digitization and Network Enabled Capability programmes. The Company is one of the leading European suppliers of integrated avionics and mission systems with products in operation worldwide. It is the second largest supplier of UK avionics equipment for Eurofighter and has vast experience in the design of solutions for the harsh operational environments of both fixed (fast jet) and rotary wing platforms.

Rockwell Collins is a leader in communications solutions such as tactical data links and software-defined radio. The Company’s joint venture company with BAE Systems, Data Link Solutions, has supplied many of the world’s Link 16 terminals. In addition, Rockwell Collins (UK) Ltd has implemented Link 16 systems, including those for the British Army’s RAP Troop and 16 Air Assault Brigade.

ICI, the design authority for Improved Data Modems is a leader in this technology, currently produces the majority of the IDM solutions worldwide including software to assure Ground to Air and Air to Air interoperability. The Company provides its IDM technology for a number of United States military platforms including the Army Apache, Comanche and land forces, the Air Force F-16 and the Navy F/A 18 platforms.
