Srinagar, Oct 7, IRNA -- Three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were killed and two others injured when militants set off an improvised explosive device (IED), targeting the road opening party of the force, on Srinagar-Pahalgam road in south Kashmir on Tuesday. According to Press Trust of India (PTI), the IED was planted atop a bridge on the main road at Ganeshpora near Ashmuqam, 75 km from Srinagar in Anantnag district, and the blast was so powerful that it caused massive damage to the road link, the official sources said Five BSF personnel, on foot patrol, bore the brunt of the blast, which took place around 9:15 a.m. (local time) and fell in the Lidder Nallah. Two other soldiers who had sustained serious injuries in the explosion were evacuated to hospital where they are responding well to the treatment, the sources said, adding while body of one soldier was recovered immediately, two others took nearly two hours. A massive hunt has been launched to nab the militants responsible for the explosion, they said. As a result of damage to the bridge, traffic on the main road was suspended and efforts are on to restore it, the sources said. However, Pahalgam bound vehicles were diverted to seller route, they added. /211 End
