Detained al-Qaeda suspects `Uzbeks, Chechens, Afghans`: Pakistan

Islamabad, Oct 4, IRNA -- Pakistan`s intelligence agencies` preliminary investigation has revealed that `Uzbeks, Chechens and Afghans` are among al-Qaeda suspects held during the army operation in South Waziristan Agency on Thursday, according to press reports. The detainees also included an Algerian and some Arabic-speaking nationals, the daily Dawn reported in its Saturday issue. The newspaper said that the investigators were trying to determine the nationalities of eight al-Qaeda suspects killed during the operation. Some tribesmen, the daily added, rounded up on charges of sheltering or harbouring foreign militants could be released after clearance by the investigation agencies. MHA/TSH/210 End
