US forces to remain in Afghanistan for up to 8 more years: report
IRNA
Berlin, Sept 29, IRNA -- American forces, based in Afghanistan, could be staying for up to eight more years in the war-stricken country, the European edition of the US military daily Stars and Stripes reported Monday. "At Bagram air base, base operations have devised a five-to eight-year community master plan, in which all US troops will eventually move from the west side of the airfield to the east side," Lt.Col. Paul Kimbrough was quoted as saying at Bagram base operations. The Florida-based US Central Command, which is coordinating military operations in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa, has already begun to devise a long-range plan. At present time, there are around 10,000 American troops in Afghanistan and neighboring countries fighting as part of the so-called anti-terror campaign Operation Enduring Freedom. OT/210 End
