Pakistan steps up anti-terror operation in Afghan border

Islamabad, Sept 22, IRNA -- Pakistan`s forces have stepped up operation against Taliban elements on Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Islamabad-based daily Nawa-e-Waqt reported in its Monday issue that under the plan, security has been tightened up close to the border to combat Taliban. The newspaper said, under operation-Al-Meezan-the liaison and coordination between the army personnel and other law-enforcement agencies has been strengthened. As part of new plan, 12 hundred-kilometre areas have been made accessible: as many as 30 new posts have been established in the area, including the South Waziristan Agency, a hilly and rugged locality close to the border, the daily added. In all, 86 new posts have been set up on Pak-Afghan border to keep a close vigil, ensuring no unwanted element crosses the border, it said. MHA/TSH/211 End
