Tehran, Sept 15, IRNA -- Air Force Commander Brigadier-General Reza Pardis said here on Monday that Air Force experts have been able to develop the technology for producing laser navigation systems for the first time in the country. The Persian-language newspaper `Jomhouri-Ye Eslami` quoted Pardis as saying that the experts had succeeded to produce the Intertial Navigation System (INS), which uses laser gyros and satellite facilities to determine the geographical position of an aircraft and report it to the pilot. He said the foreign brands of INS systems is worth about 100,000 to 120,000 dollars, stressing that Iran`s ability to produce these systems could have considerable economic gains for the country. Pardis added that the Air Force started the INS development project in cooperation with the Department for Electronic Industries of Defense Ministry as well as a group of university professors about two years ago. He also said that the technology for producing INS systems is exclusive only to certain countries such as the US, Britain, France and Russia, and that some other countries are producing these systems under a license without having the right to transfer the technology.
