Pak-US defence talks on Sept 15: ministry

Islamabad, Sept 13 -- A 14-member Pakistani defense delegation will leave for Washington Sunday to take part in the 15th meeting of Pak-US Defense Consultative Group which will be held in Washington from 15-18 September 2003. Defense Secretary, Lt. Gen. Hamid Nawaz Khan will lead Pakistan side while Douglas J. Feith, the US Under Secretary for Defense, will be at the head of US team and the opening and closing sessions will be co-chaired by the leaders of the two delegations, a defence ministry statement said Saturday. The Defense Consultative Group has been sub-divided into three working groups which will hold discussions on various agenda items pertaining to cooperation in training, exercises, equipment and counter terrorism and finalize the minutes before the concluding session on 18th. During his stay in Washington, Lt. Gen Hamid Nawaz Khan is expected to call on Colin Powell, US Secretary of State, Donald Rumsfeld, US Secretary of Defense, Condoleezza Rice, National Security Advisor, Gen. Richard B. Myers, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff and Gen. John P. Abezaid, Combatant Commander, US Centcom, the statement said. The Pak-US Defense Consultative group founded in 1984 was re-established last year in accordance with the decisions taken during President Pervez Musharraf`s visit to Washington in February 2002. /TK/TSH/214 End
