Pakistan for promoting peace in Afghanistan: Minister
IRNA
Islamabad, Sept 13, IRNA -- Pakistan said Saturday it will exert utmost endeavor to promote peace in Afghanistan and support Afghan President Hamed Karzai. "We want to see the Karzai government strong and stable as stability in Afghanistan is in favor of Pakistan," said Interior Minister Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat while talking to newsmen in Islamabad. Saying that Pakistan has already offered to extend support to improve security in that country, Faisal said the Karzai government will also have to take solid steps to maintain peace and stability within Afghanistan and establish its writ throughout the country. According to the minister, Afghan army is in training process and a big operation against the terrorists can be only launched through joint coordinated efforts of the allies in war against terrorism. He also said operations are underway in tribal areas to hunt high profile leaders of Al-Qaeda and time is running out for them. "Pakistan and Afghanistan have over twenty-five-hundred-kilometer long border and it is practically impossible to seal the whole border, however, we have adopted a strategy to launch operations against Al-Qaeda leaders in our tribal areas. "We are also taking action against those Taliban elements who are involved in militant and terrorist activities and not against those taliban who are peace loving," the minister added. /TSH/AH/210 End
