Militant alliance backs Geelani in Kashmir
IRNA
Srinagar, Sept 12, IRNA -- An alliance of militant Kashmiri groups threw their weight behind a breakaway faction of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) in a move seen, as bolstering the position of hawks in the separatist camp. The United Jihad Council (UJC), consisting of militant groups who support the merger of Kashmir with Pakistan said a meeting was held in Muzafarabad under the chairmanship of Syed Salahudin leader of Hizbul Mujahedin Thursday. According to a statement circulated here the meeting supported the change of leadership in Hurriyat Conference saying it was a right of APHC constituents. Jihad Council fully supports the move, the statement said. 13 groups out of the 27 parted ways with Hurriyat led by veteran Shia leader Maulana Abbas Ansari and instead supported former Jam`at-e-Islami leader Syed Ali Geelani causing a split in the biggest multi-party combine in Kashmir. /FM/210 End
