F/A-18 Hornet Landing Injures Several GW Crewmembers

NORFOLK, Va. (NNS) -- Several crew members were injured Sept. 11 during a mishap following an arrested landing by an F/A-18 Hornet at about 4 p.m. EST, on the flight deck of USS George Washington (CVN 73). Three of those injured are being medevaced; the nature of their injuries is unknown at this time.
The aircraft crashed into the water, and the pilot safely ejected and was immediately recovered.
George Washington was conducting carrier qualifications operations off the coast of Virginia at the time of the mishap. The incident is currently under investigation.
