Lockheed Martin UK Unveils Future Merlin Concept Visualisations at DSEi
DSEi, LONDON, United Kingdom, September 10th, 2003 -- Lockheed Martin UK, the Merlin Mk1 prime contractor, today revealed early company-developed concept visualisations on how the Royal Navy's Merlin weapon system could potentially evolve in the future.
Ron Christenson, Group Managing Director of Lockheed Martin UK Ltd Integrated Systems said: "The Merlin is an incredibly versatile system that could be given many additional roles in the future. Potentially its capabilities are wide-ranging and the concepts here go beyond what is planned for the Merlin Capability Sustainment Plus Programme, but they give a taste of the possibilities that might be looked at during the aircraft's life.
"We view the aircraft as evolving to be a key node in the network-enabled battlespace of tomorrow, but as well as being a sophisticated sensor and communications platform, it has the range and payload for a variety of offensive and defensive taskings."
Lockheed Martin UK, a unit of Lockheed Martin Corporation, is a leader in systems integration working on major programmes spanning the aerospace, defence, civil and commercial sectors with significant capabilities in the transport infrastructure market.
