Sharon seeks Indian-Israeli strategic alliance
IRNA
Al-Khalil, Sept 8, IRNA -- Ariel Sharon flew to New Delhi Monday for a state visit to India, the first by a Zionist Prime Minister since both countries normalized relations eleven years ago. Sharon is accompanied by a large 120-member delegation, including intelligence officials, businessmen and counter-terror experts. The Israeli state-run radio said Sharon would discuss with Indian officials ``cooperation against terror.`` The Israeli newspaper Ha`aretz on Monday quoted officials as saying that Israel would offer its expertise to India on combating ``suicide bombings.`` Ha`aretz also revealed that Sharon will seek to increase India`s weaponry purchases from Israel from the current $1,500 million to $2,000 million. India is reportedly interested in purchasing the anti-missile missile (AMM) known as ``arrow``, developed and financed by the United States with some parts produced in the Israeli military industries. However, the US reportedly is objecting to the transfer of the ``arrow`` technology to India. Both India and Israel are nuclear powers. KA/NK/210 End
