Afghan official says Taliban`s attacks intensify
IRNA
Kabul, Aug 27, IRNA -- Afghanistan`s Deputy Interior Minister in Security Affairs General Helaleddin Helal, confirmed here on Wednesday that the attacks launched by the remnants of Taliban militants constantly intensified during the days of the past month. Speaking at a press conference, without naming any particular country`s name, the deputy Afghan minister said, "There are still militants who get trained in Afghanistan neighboring countries, and then launch military attacks against the Afghan central government`s forces upon arriving the Afghan soil." General Helal claimed, "Some of Afghanistan`s neighbors are not honoring their commitments towards our territorial integrity, and refraining from interference in each others` internal affairs." The Taliban militants drastically intensified their attacks against the forces of the Afghan National Army and the foreign military forces in Afghanistan during the days of the past month. Taliban normally launch their attacks in six southern and eastern provinces of Afghanistan, in groups of a few hundreds each. Formerly, the Taliban used to launch attacks in less than ten-member groups. The deputy Afghan interior minister in security affairs added, "The enemies of Afghanistan and international terrorists unfortunately have still maintained their presence outside Afghan borders, gain assistance from certain sources, and worsen the security conditions in the country." General Helal said, "Despite the well intention of the Afghan interim government in announcing public pardon, the remnants of Taliban take advantage of it against government forces." He added, "The Afghan government is going through a very sensitive period and cannot all by itself, and relying on its still weak ilitary and disciplinary forces` capabilities and facilities block the attacks launched by the Taliban and Al Qaeda militants. Considering the prevailing chaotic conditions in northern Afghanistan "free from foreign interference", he said, "Some regional commanders taking advantage of the esteemed names of two Afghan parties, namely the National-Islamic Movement and the Islamic Group (Jam`iat-e-Eslami), create tension and resort to brutal acts in northern parts of the country." General Helal said, "The government would send a delegation to the northern parts of Afghanistan, and summon the commanders in the north to Kabul to survey the real causes of the unfortunate events there."
