Ukraine ready to take part in trans-Afghan gas pipeline project

Kiev, Aug 27, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- Ukrainian companies are interested in taking part in post-war reconstruction projects in Afghanistan, including the restoration of energy networks, roads and bridges, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Anatoly Zlenko said after a meeting with his Afghan counterpart Abdullah Abdullah. Zlenko said Ukraine declared the readiness to participate in laying a trans-Afghan gas pipeline, also crossing Turkmenistan and Pakistan, and creating a trans-Afghan transport corridor that would connect Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Iran. Zlenko expressed the hope that in cooperation with Afghanistan, Ukraine would manage to translate these ambitious projects into reality. In turn, the Afghan foreign minister said his country welcomed the Ukrainian companies` readiness to participate in the restoration of the Afghan economy. Zlenko and Abdullah also discussed stabilization in the region, the outlook for political cooperation and international organizations` cooperation with terrorism.
