Ukraine, Afghanistan discuss military-technical cooperation
IRNA
Kiev, Aug 27, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- The Ukrainian and Afghan foreign ministers, Anatoly Zlenko and Abdullah Abdullah, held talks on Wednesday on prospects for military-technical cooperation between the two countries. Zlenko told journalists, "We know that Afghanistan needs military equipment and ammunition. Ukraine may provide this to Afghanistan." At the same time, Zlenko said the sides agreed that military-technical cooperation should be discussed by specialists. Abdullah pointed out that there is a serious problem of disarming landmines in Afghanistan. "We hope that we will cooperate in this field," the Afghan diplomat said. Last June Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma instructed the government to study a possibility of supplying Afghanistan with modern arms. /AH/210 End
