
General Dynamics Announces State-of-the-Art Charlotte Operations Facility Plan
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), disclosed more information about its plans for light manufacturing facilities in Charlotte, N.C. with the announcement today of its decision to create a state-of-the-art facility for its sensor and detection systems. The company’s Charlotte Operations will house program management, engineering development and production of chemical and biological detection and advanced sensor systems programs. General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products is a leading provider of chemical and biological detection systems for the Department of Defense.
General Dynamics will create a showcase operation in Charlotte and will begin transitioning programs into this facility by the second quarter of 2004. “We will work closely with our customers and industry partners to ensure a smooth transition of these very important programs,” said Linda Hudson, President of Armament and Technical Products. “We see significant synergies between the sensor technologies and the Charlotte academic and business communities,” said Hudson.
General Dynamics is currently in discussions to lease up to 130,000 ft2 of light manufacturing space in the Charlotte area and expects to conclude negotiations within weeks. Once negotiations are concluded, the company expects architectural and engineering plans to be completed by the third quarter of this year with fit-up completed by the first quarter of 2004. Transition of the detection programs from its Deland Operations in Florida is planned to begin in March of 2004.
