ARMARIS now operational
01 August 2003
Armaris, the joint company set up by Thales and DCN, opened its doors for business on 1 August 2002. The agreement signed by partners Thales and DCN lays the foundations for growing cooperation with other partners in Europe andworldwide.
Armaris is an important step in the growing cooperation between Thales and DCN in naval shipbuilding and systems. The company offers a consolidated portfolio of modular products bringing together the partners' experience and expertise in prime contracting, advanced technologies, and naval engineering and services.
The company's prime aims are to participate in cooperation programmes and win new business in the international marketplace for surface combatants, submarines and combat systems. The resulting proposals will be based on solutions developed by DCN and Thales Naval France, and Armaris will act as the prime contractor for all contracts it undertakes.
Thales and DCN have worked together on various major projects, sharing overall prime contractor responsibilities in several cases. Two examples are the ongoing Sawari 2 stealth frigate programme for Saudi Arabia and the Franco-Italian Horizon programme.Armaris will allow the partners to consolidate their commercial and prime contracting capabilities, rationalise their combat system activities, and prepare for other partnerships, especially as part of European cooperation programmes.
