Soldiers from the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment helped rebuild the school in a move to put it together the right way when it had been built originally in the wrong way.
  • U-S/IRAQ VOA 03 Aug 2003 -- Two prominent U-S senators say they believe American forces are getting closer to finding ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. Republican Trent Lott and Democrat Evan Bayh appeared Sunday on American television.

  • LIBERIA/PRESIDENT VOA 03 Aug 2003 -- Liberian President Charles Taylor has agreed to relinquish power on August 11th, but no date has been set for when he will go into exile, probably in Nigeria. President Taylor says he first wants an indictment for war crimes dropped.

  • Afghan security commission plans meeting to address recent skirmishes, UN reports UN News Centre 03 Aug 2003 -- A key Afghan security commission will convene an "extraordinary meeting" on Monday to address problems in the Dara-i-Suf District, which has been the scene of recent skirmishes, a United Nations spokesman reported today.

  • Powell Discusses North Korea, Iran, War on Terrorism Washington File 03 Aug 2003 -- Any substantive discussion of North Korea's nuclear weapons program must be "a negotiation among six parties who have equities," Secretary of State Colin Powell said in an interview with U.S. regional news syndicates August 1. (...) Regarding Iran, Powell said the United States is concerned about that country's nuclear energy program and is "particularly engaged with the Russians on their support of the projects such as we share. (...) In response to a question on Saudi Arabia's contributions to the war on terrorism, Powell said that the U.S. relationship with that country is a good one.
