U.S. Has Given At Least $1.85 Billion To Afghanistan Since October 2001

Afghanistan: Levels of Assistance
Question: Please provide further details on U.S. aid to Afghanistan. Would an increase in funds be included in FY 04 funds? How much money has the U.S. provided in aid to Afghanistan?
Answer: The details on the program for accelerated assistance to Afghanistan are still under discussion within the government.
In fiscal year 2002 (October 1, 2001-September 30, 2002), our assistance for security, reconstruction and humanitarian needs totaled over $928 million. In fiscal year 2003 (October 1, 2002-September 30, 2003), the total will be over $926 million.
