Coast Guard Cutter Boutwell returns home

USCG Pacific Area News Release

7/11/2003

ALAMEDA, Calif. - The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Boutwell is returning home from the Persian Gulf to Coast Guard Island, Monday at 9:15 a.m.

Boutwell departed with the USS Constellation Battle Group January 3, 2003 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism.

While in the Northern Arabian Gulf, the crew provided protection for amphibious landings, waterborne minesweeping operations, supported Coast Guard Port Security units guarding oil platforms and enforced United Nations sanctions against Iraq.

The Coast Guard role in Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom represented our largest overseas deployment in support of military operations since the Vietnam War. Boutwell was the only 378' cutter to deploy from the west coast.
