115 Die in Crash of Sudan Airliner

A Sudan Airways plane on a domestic flight crashed early Tuesday near the Red Sea town of Port Sudan, killing at least 115 passengers and crew.

Airlines officials said a two-year-old child survived the crash and was reported to be in good condition in an area hospital.

The officials said the pilot of the Boeing 737 reported "trouble" shortly after take off and was attempting to land when the plane crashed in an open area near the airport.

The plane was headed to the Sudanese capital, Khartoum. It was not immediately clear if there were any foreigners among the passengers.

Officials say experts will soon begin an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
