FORT HOOD SOLDIERS SCHEDULED TO RETURN FROM IRAQ MONDAY (July 7)

III Corps Press Release

07 July 2003

Approximately 200 soldiers from the 62nd Engineer Battalion are scheduled to return to Fort Hood Monday afternoon (July 7) after serving almost six months in Iraq.

Members of the 62nd Engineer Battalion, a 13th Corps Support Command construction unit, deployed from Fort Hood on Jan. 14 this year in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Approximately 100 soldiers from the battalion's Company A returned to Fort Hood on July 4.

Family members and friends will meet the returning soldiers at the Abrams Physical Fitness Center about 2 p.m. on Monday to welcome them back to Fort Hood.

The 62nd Engineer Battalion and the 808th Engineer Battalion assisted in the building of the Inland Petroleum Distribution System while deployed in Iraq. The IPDS is a lightweight, rapidly deployable pipeline and terminal system primarily used in underdeveloped areas of operation where it can interface with existing fuel sources, such as refineries, tanker farms, or the Navy's Offshore Petroleum Discharge System.)
