ATK Awarded $15.4 Million Contract For AN/AAR-47 Missile Warning System Upgrade Kits
Jul 7, 2003
MINNEAPOLIS, July 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ATK (Alliant Techsystems, NYSE: ATK) has received a $15.4 million contract from the Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md. for full rate production of AN/AAR-47 Missile Warning System sensor upgrade kits and full up systems. The kits and systems will be delivered to the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force for integration into multiple aircraft platforms.
"The sophisticated sensors ATK will deploy on Navy and Air Force aircraft as part of the AN/AAR-47 system will be an air crew's best friend," said Tom Wilson, President of ATK Missile Systems. "ATK sensors are ideally suited for identifying the distinctive plume of surface-to air missiles, either shoulder or crew-launched, and will give them the maximum time possible to initiate evasive maneuvers or defensive actions."
ATK Missile Systems, headquartered in Woodland Hills, Calif., will conduct work under the contract at its facility in Clearwater, Fla.
The AN/AAR-47 Missile Warning System is an electro-optical missile warning system for low, slow-flying aircraft. The system detects missile launches from a variety of missile sources. The system immediately displays identified threats to the pilot in the cockpit and provides a signal to dispense appropriate countermeasures. The improved sensor technology greatly increases the probability of detection while significantly reducing the false alarm rate.
