Lockheed Martin UK Team Short-Listed for Defence Information Infrastructure Programme
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, June 26th, 2003 -- The Ministry of Defence today announced that it has selected the Lockheed Martin UK consortium as one of four contenders for its Defence Information Infrastructure (DII) programme. Lockheed Martin and the other short-listed teams will submit formal tenders in September for the potential 10-year, £4B programme. The DII Delivery Partner Contract will call for the provision of IT services and support. Ultimately, DII will provide a fully integrated and networked IT capability to the fingertips of our Armed Forces. It is a major integration project involving over 300,000 users, hundreds of applications and more than 150,000 access devices at over 2,000 locations around the world. DII is part of the MoD's vision for the effective sharing of information and for collaborative working across defence.
Mike Hardgrave, Lockheed Martin's DII capture executive, said, "We are delighted with our selection by the MoD as a potential delivery partner for DII. Our vision is to create a fast, secure and flexible infrastructure so that everyone in the armed services can have total access to the information they need to do their job. Our proven experience in delivering complex, large-scale IT defence programmes, blended with the core capabilities of our partners, means we are well positioned to work in partnership with the MoD to create a best value for money, agile solution for DII."
To accomplish this task, Lockheed Martin is leading a team that includes Hewlett Packard, Unisys, SAIC, Deloitte Consulting and QinetiQ. These companies bring a wealth of capabilities and experience to the DII project. This team will work in partnership with the MoD to create an agile and flexible approach to DII that can adapt to the rapid changes in technology, whilst providing a low-risk service delivery solution.
Lockheed Martin, one of the world's largest government systems integrators, will apply its world-class large-scale programme management, systems integration and service delivery management capabilities to DII.
Hewlett Packard's service management expertise will be of significant benefit to the consortium. "HP has amply demonstrated its innovation, efficiency and leadership in the management of IT infrastructures in complex environments," said Bryan Visser, Managing Principal, HP Services EMEA "We believe that our ability to provide continuous high quality user services in an environment where there is significant change will fully complement the capabilities of our partners, and we look forward to working with the MoD to deliver a coherent and evolving DII solution."
Unisys will bring its proven experience as a MoD infrastructure provider. "Unisys has a proven track record of successful delivery for complex Defence projects, such as NavyNet." said Stuart Bladen, Partner, Defence, Unisys. "Unisys is committed to working with its partners to deliver a dynamic solution to the DII contract to ensure successful delivery."
Other team members will provide critical MoD relevant domain expertise, change management capabilities and information security expertise. Together, the Lockheed Martin UK consortium offers an unrivalled breath and depth of expertise from across the globe in all industry sectors.
