OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea - Air Force Space Command's top man visited the peninsula to learn more about the mission here and provide input on how space assets can benefit 7th Air Force.

General Lance Lord, AFSPC commander, stationed at Peterson AFB, Colo., made a quick stop at Osan during his Pacific Command tour to see just how sharp the "tip of the spear" really was.

"This is my first visit on the peninsula, and I have to say your motto of 'Ready to Fight Tonight' is absolutely on target. "I saw seasoned professionals here who knew how to do their jobs and were ready to fight; I was very impressed," the space commander said.

General Lord's goal during his visit was simple.

"I wanted to make sure the things we provide in Space Command are things 7th Air Force can use and that they are fully integrated," the general said.

According to the general, Operation Iraqi Freedom clearly showed that space is critical to the mission.

"I want to make sure Lt. Gen. Lance Smith [7th AF commander] has every thing he needs to get the job done here if ever called upon," he said.

With global positioning, communication and intelligence satellites within Space Command's arsenal, the reach of Team Osan's mission is multiplied.

General Lord said his first visit will not be his last, and he has a good lasting opinion about Team Osan.

"There is teamwork and a great partnership with the Korean air force here. That with the primary goal to avoid war, provides regional stability and promotes peace and prosperity. The space commander is set to help 7th Air Force meet those goals," he said.

From here, General Lord was off to Hickam AFB, Hawaii, to visit with PACAF Headquarters officials. Then the general and his staff will go home to Colorado to keep challenging the far reaches of the final frontier - space. Courtesy of Pacific Air Forces News Service.
