02 Jun 2003
BAE Systems has received the Military Traffic Management Command's (MTMC) Quality Award for 2002. The company was recognised for managing ordnance support activities for all branches of the armed forces at the U.S. Naval Magazine Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (NAVMAGPH). BAE Systems also received MTMC's Quality Award for 2001.
U.S. Navy Capt. John McLawhorn, commanding officer at the Naval Magazine said, "The outstanding performance of BAE Systems has given NAVMAGPH an outstanding customer service reputation documented by customers and inspection teams. They constantly maintain a customer satisfaction rate of more than 90 percent." McLawhorn nominated the company's Technical Services business unit for the award.
Rear Admiral Bernard McCullough, Commander, Navy Region Hawaii and Capt. McLawhorn presented the award to Bruce Hamilton, president, BAE Systems Technology Solutions Sector and Gordon Eldridge, president, BAE Systems Technical Services during ceremonies in Hawaii May 30.
BAE Systems Technical Services has been managing ordnance handling at the Naval Magazine since receiving a $25 million contract from the U.S. Navy in 1985. In 2002, the company was responsible for receiving, storing, maintaining and issuing 22, 000 tons of ordnance for the operational readiness of U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard forces based in the mid-Pacific region, as well as designated forces from foreign countries.
"We're honoured to receive this award from the MTMC and to be recognised by our customer for this critical requirement," said Eldridge. "Our employees are extremely proud of the work they provide to our armed forces as well as our improved work processes and cross-training initiatives. These efforts will realise a savings of more than $5 million to the government over the course of the contract."
The MTMC provides worldwide single port management, transportation and traffic management services; deployment planning and engineering; and 21st century technologies to the Department of Defense. Annually, the MTMC recognises industry leaders for their high customer service and transportation innovation.
