FIRST CAVALRY DIVISION'S ATTACK HELICOPTER BATTALION RETURNS

FORT HOOD, TX- The 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment returns to Fort Hood Wednesday after nearly three months supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom in the U.S. Central Command's area of operation.
A "Welcome Home" ceremony is scheduled Wednesday evening. More than 300 soldiers are expected to return on two separate aircraft. The first aircraft is tentatively scheduled to arrive at 9 p.m. with the ceremony to follow at approximately 10 p.m. The second aircraft should arrive two hours after the first, with a ceremony beginning approximately one hour after the aircraft touches down.
Media outlets interested in covering the welcome home ceremony are requested to send a fax on company letterhead to the 1st Cavalry Division Public Affairs Office.(See number below)
Media members interested in covering the "First Attack" battalion's return to Fort Hood are advised to report to the 79th Street Gate no later than 7 p.m. Public Affairs representatives will escort media to a pre-staging area, where buses will be provided for transportation. Due to limited parking, no privately owned media vehicles will be authorized, except limited live television trucks.
Media anticipating the use of live satellite television trucks should call the 1CD Public Affairs Office, MSG Dave Larsen [work - (254) 287-9400; cell - (254) 291-7893] as soon as possible to make prior coordination. The first six media outlets requesting live television capability for this event will be allowed access. Due to limited parking space at the event, live trucks will be limited to six.
Media may cover the first aircraft arrival, tentatively scheduled for 10 p.m., May 21, 2003. Any media wishing to cover the second aircraft arrival (approximately midnight.) must receive prior approval by the 1st Cavalry Division Public Affairs Office, MSG Dave Larsen.
After pre-staging buses and live trucks, media members will move to the ceremony location at approximately 8 p.m. Media members will be given ample opportunity to interview family members of the returning soldiers, as they await the arrival.
