General Dynamics Awarded $5 Million Order to Upgrade Fort Gordon Telecommunications System

NEEDHAM, Mass. – General Dynamics Network Systems has won a $5.1 million delivery order to upgrade and expand the telecommunications voice network at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Ga., under the U.S. Army's Digital Switched Systems Modernization Program (DSSMP). General Dynamics Network Systems is a business unit in the General Dynamics Information Systems and Technology group.

Under this order General Dynamics will install a Nortel telecommunications switch in a newly constructed communications building at Fort Gordon, the Department of Defense’s premier training center for military communications and information technology.

General Dynamics has been engineering, installing and upgrading telecommunications networks and infrastructure at U.S. military bases worldwide for more than 30 years. The Fort Gordon project follows recent orders for major Army switch upgrades at Fort Lee, Va., and Picatinny Arsenal in Pennsylvania. Combined, these projects represent over $13 million in orders over the past year, serving more than 36,500 voice customers when installed.

The Fort Gordon contract was awarded by the U.S. Army Contracting Agency Information Technology E-Commerce and Commercial Contracting Center at Fort Monmouth, N.J., and was competed among several DSSMP prime contract holders. The Project Manager, Defense Communications and Army Switched Systems, a unit of the Army's Program Executive Office, Enterprise Information Systems, will oversee the project.
