General Dynamics Receives $24 Million Add-on Contract for Comanche Turreted Gun System
BURLINGTON, Vt. – General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has received a $24.2 million add-on contract from Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation of Stratford, Conn., for the Comanche Turreted Gun System (TGS) engineering manufacturing development. This contract award extends the development work through 2008, bringing the contract value since 2000 to $52.2 million.
The Comanche TGS, with its specially designed three-barreled gun, is the lightest 20mm gun turret ever developed. Due to its forward location in the chin of the aircraft, the gun system provides wide air-to-ground suppressive fire power for enhanced Comanche survivability. The composite ammunition-handling system and turret gun mount are lightweight yet reliable during high rates of fire under all operating conditions.
The Comanche TGS is being designed and developed at General Dynamics’ Burlington, Vt., facility in conjunction with major partners Giat Industries of Bourges, France; Moog Inc. of Buffalo, N.Y.; and Neptune Tech Services, Inc. of Jacksonville, Fla.
General Dynamics Armament and Technical Products provides a broad range of system solutions for military and commercial applications. The company designs, develops and produces high-performance armament systems; a full range of advanced composite-based products; biological and chemical detection systems; tactical deception equipment; and mobile shelter systems.
General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia, employs approximately 57,000 people worldwide and had 2002 revenues of $13.8 billion. The company has leading market positions in land and amphibious combat systems, mission-critical information systems and technologies, shipbuilding and marine systems, and business aviation.
