Europe's EADS and Chile's ENAER Reinforce Aerospace and Defence Cooperation
Santiago/Chile, 13 May 2003
The premier European aerospace and defence group EADS and Chile’s national aerospace leader ENAER (Empresa Nacional de Aeronáutica de Chile) will explore new opportunities for cooperation. Both companies signed a strategic framework co-operation agreement in Santiago / Chile on Tuesday.
The cooperation will include areas such as structures and systems for Airbus aircraft and Eurocopter helicopters, aircraft maintenance, military trainer aircraft, missiles, defence electronics and telecommunications. Additionally, the partners will evaluate how the EADS marketing network can support the marketing of Pillán trainer aircraft built by ENAER.
The agreement was signed by Alfredo Guzman, the Executive Director of ENAER, and Jean-Marc de Raffin-Dourny, EADS Senior Vice President and Head of Business Development in the presence of Michelle Bachelet, Chilean Minister of Defence and the Ambassadors of France, Germany and Spain.
Following this Agreement, a coordination committee will be set up to identify all possible cooperation areas.
EADS and ENAER already have a significant track record of successful cooperation in military transportation and trainer aircraft. The industrial cooperation between EADS CASA and ENAER dates back to 1980 with the co-production of components for C-101 and CN-235 aircraft. ENAER is the exclusive producer of the tail cone for the worldwide fleet of the new CASA C-295 military transport aircraft.
This agreement “is a bet for growing, aeronautic and technologic development of our country. From an entrepreneurial point of view, this firm is focused on our strategic objectives in terms of being industrially associated with one of the biggest consortiums of the aeronautic area of the world”, emphasizes Alfredo Guzmán.
Jean-Marc de Raffin-Dourny added “this cooperation between ENAER and EADS is strategic, as it will open new marketing possibilities throughout the world for both companies and will also reinforce our mutual opportunities, both in the Chilean and Latin American market”.
