Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Wins SECNAV Safety Award

WASHINGTON - Portsmouth Naval Shipyard was recently named a winner of the Secretary of the Navy 2002 Achievement in Safety Ashore Award. The shipyard won the award in the large industrial activity (continental United States) category.
The award winners distinguished themselves by demonstrating the value of proactive safety programs to mission success, according to a Navy message from Acting Secretary of the Navy Hansford Johnson.
"Your accomplishments validate the significance of senior leadership's role in promoting operational excellence through effective risk management and hazard recognition and correction," Johnson wrote in the message.
