USS Carl Vinson Battle Group visits Yokosuka, Japan

YOKOSUKA, Japan -- USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), homeported in Bremerton, Wash., along with USS Antietam (CG 54), and USS Ingraham (FFG 61), arrived in Yokosuka, Japan, on May 10 for a scheduled port visit.
The purpose of the port visit is to allow the ships to replenish and conduct maintenance while giving the approximately 5,400 crewmembers a chance to participate in friendship and goodwill activities. The San Diego-based Antietam, and Ingraham, homeported in Bremerton, Wash., will join Carl Vinson in also participating in community service projects.
The Carl Vinson is a Nimitz class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. The Antietam, with a crew of about 360 Sailors, is a Ticonderoga class cruiser. Ingraham, an Oliver Hazard Perry class guided missile frigate, has a crew of approximately 300.
The Carl Vinson Battle Group departed Bremerton on Jan. 13 for a Western Pacific deployment to backfill the USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) Battle Group, which was deployed to the Central Command area of responsibility.
