Bush Welcomes Albania, Croatia, Macedonia into Adriatic Partnership
(Charter affirms U.S. commitment to further NATO enlargement) (220)
President Bush has welcomed the signing on May 2 of the Adriatic
Charter of Partnership, which underscores U.S. support for the "shared
aspirations of Albania, Croatia, and Macedonia to full integration
into the Euro-Atlantic community," including membership in NATO.
The document was signed by U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell and
the foreign ministers of Albania, Croatia and Macedonia during
Powell's stop in Tirana en route to Damascus, Syria.

SIGNING OF THE ADRIATIC CHARTER
President Bush welcomes today's signing of the Adriatic Charter of
Partnership between the United States and Albania, Croatia, and
Macedonia.
The Adriatic Charter initiative demonstrates dedication by Albania,
Croatia, and Macedonia to strengthen their individual and cooperative
reform efforts as they seek NATO membership. The Charter affirms the
signatories' political commitment to the values and principles of the
NATO Alliance.
The United States remains committed to NATO's "Open Door." U.S.
support for the Adriatic Charter underscores our continued support for
the shared aspirations of Albania, Croatia, and Macedonia to full
integration into the Euro-Atlantic community.
