SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- The Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) and the six Fleet and Industrial Supply Centers (FISC), located in Bremerton, Wash.; San Diego; Norfolk, Va.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; and Yokosuka, Japan, signed memorandums of agreement earlier this month to organizationally transfer the Navy Food Management Team (NFMT) function to the FISCs.

Six of the seven NFMTs are now fully integrated into the logistics support centers at each co-located FISC. The remaining NFMT in New London, Conn., was organizationally transferred to FISC Norfolk.

The decision to transfer this function was the result of the ongoing NAVSUP transformation process. By being aligned with the FISCs, the teams will provide better claimancy support and operational forces support, while reducing overall costs and increasing efficiency.

The NFMTs are aligned functionally under NAVSUP's assistant chief of staff for Navy family, but organizationally assigned to the FISCs for management.

NFMTs, based in fleet concentrated areas, service afloat and ashore commands. They significantly improve the overall Navy Food Service Program by providing on-the-job-training in proper food service techniques, including preparation, progressive cookery, food serving, sanitation, personal hygiene, and management/operating procedures. The teams also offer food service personnel training in record keeping and accounting, and provide information on new food items and developments in food service.

FISC San Diego provides logistics, business and support services to fleet, shore and industrial commands of the Navy, Coast Guard and Military Sealift Command, and other joint and allied forces. The FISC delivers combat capability through logistics by teaming with regional partners and customers to provide supply chain management, procurement, contracting and transportation services, technical and customer support, defense fuel products and worldwide movement of personal property.

A field activity of the Naval Supply Systems Command, headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pa., FISC San Diego is part of a worldwide logistics network of more than 26,000 military and civilian personnel providing "One-Touch Supply."
