TUP spotlights Boeing, NAVAIR teamwork

The TAV-8B Harrier Trainer Upgrade Program (TUP) is a cooperative effort between the Boeing Company and the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) Depot Cherry Point to support the warfighter.

The upgrade involves incorporation of several modification kits in the Harrier aircraft. Some changes are common to the single seater while three are trainer unique. For the first jet upgraded with all three trainer-unique changes, the work will take approximately 18 months, although the upgrade team is working to make the change more efficient to save time and money.

Boeing assembles the upgrade kits and provides them to depot artisans, who are incorporating the changes into the aircraft. The artisans work with Boeing's on-site representative, Steve Mottl, and Boeing also provides engineering and production support from their headquarters in St. Louis.

There are currently four TUP Harriers at the depot.
