NEW ORLEANS (NNS) -- To meet the needs of the Navy, certain drilling Reserve hospital corpsmen are under a "stop loss" policy effective immediately.

According to a recent Naval Reserve Force message (COMNAVRESFOR 211950Z APR 03) Program Nine drilling Reserve hospital corpsmen (E-1 through E-6) who hold the Navy Enlisted Classification 8404 (Field Medical Service Technician), cannot transfer to the Individual Ready Reserve or out of their assigned Program Nine billets until further notice.

High year tenure limits for these hospital corpsmen are also suspended.

More policy specifics, including how waiver requests should be routed, are included in the Naval Reserve Force message. Reservists with questions on the stop loss policy should go through their Reserve chain of command.

The Naval Reserve stop loss policy is part of the overall Navy policy (NAVOP 005/03 Stop Loss) to meet current wartime requirements.
