SAN DIEGO (April 25, 2003) -- Thirty Marine Aircraft Group 11 Marines returned home from Operation Iraqi Freedom Tuesday.
The Marines from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 225, Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 232 and Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 11 will act as advance party to set up for the main body of their squadrons, who are scheduled to return in the near future.
"They will assist in the retrograde of the returning MAG-11 Marines," said Lt. Col. Jeff Arnold, Marine Aircraft Group 11 Headquarters commanding officer. "There are a myriad of tasks that need to be accomplished so that Marines can park planes, move into their offices and generally do what it takes to get used to being home."
The Mobile, Ala., native added, "They will lay the groundwork and open up work spaces so that when the main body and jets arrive, the minor details have already been taken care of and they can get back to the mission at hand."
The Marines left San Diego approximately the third week of January as part of the massive 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
"All of the Marines did outstanding and the reason why is because Marines know how to execute their mission," said Arnold. "A large part of that execution is while we always challenge ourselves to be better prepared and practice our mission, it is still a site to behold when the Marine Corps covers so much ground - in a hostile country.
"It's a proud day to be a Marine when you can be a part of the execution of such a historical mission and doing so as members of the Marine air/ground team," concluded Arnold.
