April 22, 2003 Exercise Cope North
03-2 announced YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan - Units from the U.S. Air Force and Japan Air Self Defense Force will conduct Exercise Cope North 03-2 at Misawa Air Base, Japan from May 7-16, 2003. Cope North 03-2 is a regularly scheduled bilateral exercise and is part of the on-going series of bilateral exercises designed to enhance both countries' air operations. The Cope North exercise is one of the longest series of exercises in the Pacific theater. Since the first Cope North exercise in 1978, thousands of American and Japanese airmen have honed skills that are vital to maintaining a high level of readiness. The primary Japan-based aircraft participating in exercise Cope North 03-2 are F-16s, F-15s, KC-135s, E-767, E-3, C-130s, C-21s and C-21s from the 18th Wing at Kadena Air Base, Japan, 35th Fighter Wing at Misawa, and JASDF's Chisotse and Hamamatsu Air Bases.
