CAMP HENRY, South Korea (NNS) -- Naval Reservists of Commander, U.S. Naval Logistics Forces Korea (CNLFK) continue to set the pace in joint logistical training and integrated operations.
CNLFK participated in the joint/combined Exercise Reception, Staging, Onward movement and Integration 2003 (RSOI-03) staffing unit members at multiple bases near Taegu, Pohang, Chinhae and Seoul, South Korea.
"Exercise RSOI-03 gives us the opportunity to fine tune our logistics planning skills in an effort to be 'Logistics Warriors'," according to Commander, U.S. Naval Logistics Forces Korea Rear Adm. Tom Andrews.
"This exercise is critical for the testing of wartime support, mutual logistics, mobilization and combined rear area coordination processes between all U.S. services and Republic of Korea armed forces," he said.
During the exercise, units slated to arrive in the Korean theater of operations are scheduled for transportation, tracked, received and provided life support services before they are integrated into the fighting force.
An underlying requirement for success during RSOI-03, and other similar joint exercises, is a stable, flexible communications environment. CNLFK resources played a key role establishing and maintaining the secure communications environment throughout the exercise.
"It was a great opportunity for me to leverage my 'IT' skills, refining and maintaining a complex communication system," said Information Systems Technician 2nd Class (AW) Rich Weathersbee of Allen, Texas.
Notably this year, veteran exercise participants enjoyed a significant improvement in communication and supply system integration with other forces.
Today, U.S. Navy logisticians have the ability to submit requisitions for Navy items through the U.S. Army supply system and have real-time visibility of Army material inventories. CNLFK resources rely on the Army's extensive infrastructure on the Korean peninsula for contingency and real world operations more and more.
RSOI-03 is a command post exercise conducted in Korea under the control of the Republic of Korea military and U.S. Forces Korea. The focus of this exercise is the logistical planning and execution required to receive, stage, move and integrate large numbers of allied augmentees and materials.
