BAE SYSTEMS Australia Reselected For East Timor Contract

14 Apr 2003

BAE Systems Australia Customer Solutions & Support (CS&S) has been awarded a new contract to provide a capability to support and service the Australian Defence Force's (ADFs) Operation Citadel in East Timor.

Under the contract, BAE Systems Australia is responsible for the provision of materiel and maintenance support for ADF vehicles and equipment, and garrison support activities in East Timor.

A Standing Offer commenced with the ADF to provide vehicle and equipment maintenance in October 2001. The scope of services was recently expanded and a new contract was put in place following competitive tender.

"The contract win reflects the excellent service provided to date and the growing relationship between BAE Systems Australia and the ADF over the past few years in East Timor," said Fred Eske, General Manager Support Services - BAE Systems Australia.

"BAE Systems Australia has had a presence in East Timor since 1999 - in fact 11 days after the Australian Army arrived. Via our workshop facility in Dili, we have provided logistics and maintenance support services to the Australian Defence Force, the United Nations and other aid agencies.

"We are proud to support the ADF in its contribution to the UN peacekeeping mission to bring stability and assistance to the world's newest nation," he said.

The materiel and maintenance services will be undertaken at BAE Systems Australia's workshop in Dili and through the provision of deployed technical manpower to Army Field Units.

The garrison support element involves electrical and plumbing facilities maintenance tasks, which will be carried out at the camp in Moelana.
