- ISRAEL / PALESTINIANS VOA 20 Apr 2003 -- The Israeli army has shot dead five Palestinians and wounded 45 others in a raid on a refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. At least one soldier was killed in the operation.

- NIGERIA / ELECTIONS VOA 20 Apr 2003 -- Early results in Nigeria's presidential election have given a healthy lead to incumbent President Olusegun Obasanjo. With about one-fifth of the ballots counted, he leads with more than 70 percent of the vote, while his closest rival has about 25-percent. The winner could be declared as early as Monday.
- EASTER/HOLY LAND VOA 20 Apr 2003 -- Easter Sunday in the Holy Land was celebrated by a diminished flock of local Christians and only a handful of pilgrims from abroad. Nearly three years of violence has driven out many locals, and few tourists are now venturing to the area.

- MONGOLIA/SARS SCARE VOA 20 Apr 2003 -- The potentially deadly, flu-like illness SARS has sent yet another country into a panic. China's neighbor, Mongolia, has introduced tough measures to cut the risk of infection, after five people were suspected, but not confirmed, to have the virus.
- CHINA/SARS VOA 20 Apr 2003 -- China's health minister and the mayor of Beijing have been removed from key Communist Party posts, following criticism about the way China has handled the SARS public health crisis. Officials also are trying to stop a flood of travelers during a national holiday to stem the spread of the infection.
- NIGERIA VOTE VOA 20 Apr 2003 -- Nigerians are waiting anxiously for the results of Saturday's election, in which 20 candidates were vying for the presidency. Analysts say only two of those candidates have a realistic chance of winning. They come from separate sides of the ethnic and religious divisions in Africa's most populous country.
