CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC-UGANDA: Ex-CAR President Kolinga not in Uganda, minister says
NAIROBI, 31 March 2003 (IRIN) - The Ugandan government has denied that the former president of Central African Republic, Andre Kolingba, is in exile in Kampala, according to the Ugandan state-owned New Vision.
An official of Kolingba's party told IRIN on 24 March that Kolingba was ready to return home from Kampala if CAR's new president, Francoise Bozize, granted him an amnesty.
Uganda's minister of state for regional cooperation, Col Kahinda Otafiire, is quoted in the New Vision on Thursday as saying, "I am not briefed about his [Kolingba's] presence in Uganda or his desire to return. I have not heard about his presence here."
