NAVSEA Leadership, Technologies Featured at ASNE Day 2003

WASHINGTON - The American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) will host its annual conference and exhibition, ASNE Day 2003, on March 24-25 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City Hotel in Arlington, Va.
Hundreds of naval engineers will join Fleet, Coast Guard and defense industry leaders to discuss issues critical to naval engineering and our nation's defense.
ASNE Day 2003, with a theme of "Integrating Technologies for Joint and Coalition Operations" will present an open technical and professional forum of presentations, panel discussions, speakers, and exhibits on the important processes and technical initiatives that are focused on the Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Vern Clark's "Sea Power 21" strategy that is enabling our nation's naval forces and maritime community to operate and integrate seamlessly with other military services and coalition partners in warfare environments.
Vice Adm. Phillip Balisle, commander of Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) will kick off the conference on March 24 with a keynote address focusing on the challenging role NAVSEA plays in support of the 21st Century Warfighter, Sea Enterprise and the Surface Ship and Submarine Technology (SURFTECH and SUBTECH) processes which are focused on the critical needs of maintaining and engineering Fleet readiness.
Mary Lacey, technical director for Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) will moderate the SURFTECH panel which includes Rear Adm. (sel.) Alan Hicks, NSWC commander. NAVSEA's Director of Undersea Technology, Rear Adm. Stephen Johnson will speak about the SUBTECH process at a panel on March 25.
The ASNE Day 2003's exhibit hall will showcase the latest naval and maritime technologies with more than 100 exhibits, including several from the NAVSEA team. NAVSEA headquarters, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and NSWC divisions in Carderock and Indian Head, Md., Dahlgren, Va, Crane, Ind., Corona and Port Hueneme, Calif. will present exhibits focusing on engineering aspects to enhance communications and cooperation between the Sea Warrior, Resource Sponsors, NAVSEA Technical Authority and Leadership, and Research and Development activities.
The conference will also feature technical sessions on Sea Shield, Sea Strike, Sea Basing, Readiness, Virtual Test Bed, and Ship Architecture and Foundation Technologies.
ASNE was established in 1888 as a means of recording and promoting technical work of the naval engineering field. NAVSEA remains a longtime participant of ASNE Day events, programs, sessions and exhibits.
